Artist Craig Alan Gough
Born in Perth, W.A., in 1938
Arrived in Melbourne in 1974


Craig Gough is an noted artist who is represented in the National Gallery of Victoria; Artbank; a number of regional galleries in Victoria and New South Wales; several municipal and university collections including Monash University, and important corporate collections including Robert Holmes a Court, Mark Besen/Sussan and Price Waterhouse.

Abstract expressionist in style and strong in colour and movement, he often paints large lyrical works.

In 1974, he moved from Perth to Melbourne to take up a position as senior lecturer at Monash University (then called Caulfield Institute of Technology). He had 18 solo exhibitions between 1969 to 1992 at major galleries including the Old Fire Station Gallery and Quentin Gallery in Perth; Stuart Gerstman and several at Christine Abrahams Gallery in Melbourne.

The artist has won many important prizes including the Guild Prize, WA, 1965; Rothman's Prize, WA 1966; Bunbury Art Prize, 1970; John Mc Caughey Memorial Prize, NGV (co winner), 1983; several municipal art awards Vic., 1985, 1986; Gold Coast Art Prize, 1986.
